Boulder on CNNMoney list of emerging “startup cities”

When it comes to entrepreneurial activity and investment, Boulder is one of a half-dozen “cities where startups are thriving,” CNNMoney says.

The financial news site this week highlighted six “startup cities” and Denver’s northwest neighbor was the first listed.

Editors highlighted Boulder’s entrepreneurial history — in that it served as the breeding ground for the natural foods industry — in addition to its developed software industry and research institutions. CNNMoney also noted Boulder’s active and supportive community:

What really makes Boulder stand out, though, is its proven startup development program: TechStars. Many refer to it as the best in the country, and the program claims strong stats to back that up. Since it began in 2007, the program has helped 65 startups reach $115 million in funding. All but 8 were acquired by other companies or remain active.

Following Boulder, was Cincinnati; Nashville, Tenn.; Provo, Utah; Omaha, Neb.; and Des Moines, Iowa.

what a poor title. this isn't a ranking, it's a just a list 6 cities that have some startups in unexpected places, as far as I can tell.
