Winner, winner … local Esprit, CPIA and GABF honorees

The past few days have brought some accolades to some Boulder-area startups and entrepreneurs. From the Great American Beer Festival to Esprit Entreprenur, here’s a quick run-down of the recently honored locals.

ESPRIT

Tonight, the Boulder Chamber plans to honor innovators in the Boulder County business community at the organization’s annual Esprit Entrepreneur awards event.

Here’s a quick look at who landed the accolades:

Lifetime achievement award: Steve Bosley

Entrepreneur of the Year: Justin Gold, Justin’s Nut Butter

Entrepreneurs of Distinction: Dale Katechis, Oskar Blues Brewery; Phil Villella and Chris Petersen, LogRhythm; and Nathan Seidle, SparkFun Electronics

Robert Planchard Award: Lucy Sanders, National Center for Women and Technology

Companies to Watch: Nexgen and Albeo

Colorado Photonics Industry Association - precision optics, laser, spectrometer, imaging, and other photonics technologies

CPIA

3-D company RealD, which is expanding its r&d site in Boulder, was named the Colorado Photonics Company of the Year at the Colorado Photonics Industry Association’s annual meeting on Oct. 10.

It’s the eighth straight year that a Boulder County-based company snagged the industry association’s top honor. Recent winners include ATFilms, Research Electro-Optics, DigitalGlobe and ASD Inc.

GABF

A host of craft beer startups recently have sprung up in Boulder and Broomfield counties thanks to the industry’s boom. A mix of younger and established local brewers snagged some medals at the 2012 Great American Beer Festival.

Here’s a quick look at who won what:

BJ’s Restaurant & Brewery – Boulder, Boulder — Gold for Got Beer (Indigenous Beer, 27 entries)

Left Hand Brewing Co., Longmont — Bronze for Sawtooth Ale (Ordinary of Special Bitter, 37 entries)

New Planet Beer Co., Boulder — Silver for its Brown (Gluten-Free Beer, 20 entries)

Twisted Pine Brewing Co., Boulder — Gold for West Bound Braggot (Specialty Honey Beer, 33 entries); Big Shot Espresso Stout (Coffee Beer, 63 entries)

Upslope Brewing Co., Boulder — Silver for Upslope Brown Ale (American-Style Brown Ale, 61 entries)
